Mayfest Productions Postmodern Festival Brand Book
Dillo Day is the nation’s largest, student-run music festival, produced by Mayfest Productions, a Northwestern University student group. Each year, a theme is picked for the music festival, which is then applied to accompanying graphics, artist announcements, crew merchandise, and lineup poster. The theme for 2021 was Postmodern.
Taking inspiration from artists like Warhol, Lichtenstein, Hamilton, Mayfest’s take on postmodern hybridizes a nostalgia for the golden age of screenprinting and consumerist art with a modern sense of boldness, saturation, and color. With the style guide, I aimed to create a theme that was bright, vibrant, and bold. It utilizes high-contrast colors, bold fonts, and textured finishings, such as Ben-Day dots, to create a layered sense of depth.
The brand book was the basis for all artwork for the festival, including the artist illustrations at the bottom of this page.
Dillo Day Artist Announcement Illustrations
The project consisted of four artist announcements for the 2021 Dillo Day Music Festival lineup. These artists included Beabadoobe, Omar Apollo, Kaytranada, and Playboi Carti. I was required to illustrate images that the artists approved of while also adhering to the Postmodern theme of the festival. The result is vibrantly colored digital illustrations complete with a halftone pattern backdrop reminiscent of the Pop Art movement.
